A Play Booster is the pack you draft and play with. A Collector Booster is the pack you open for the rare versions of cards. Here's how they differ, with the numbers from every set that has both.

What's in a Play Booster
Play Boosters arrived with Murders at Karlov Manor in 2024 and replaced both Draft Boosters and Set Boosters. They're built for limited play, so most of the pack is commons and uncommons, but every pack also has a wildcard slot that can be any rarity and a foil of any rarity. Here's the slot list of the Reality Fracture Play Booster:
- 1× Rare or Mythic
- 1× Foil Wildcard
- 3× Echoed Pairs
- 1× Uncommon
- 1× Common/Uncommon
- 5× Common
- 1× Common / Special Guest
- 1× Land
What's in a Collector Booster
Collector Boosters trade playability for rarity. Nearly every slot holds an alternate-art, borderless, showcase or foil card, and the set's special foil treatments live here. Here's the Reality Fracture Collector Booster:
- 1× Foil Booster Fun
- 2× Non-Foil Booster Fun
- 1× Braintwister / Commander
- 1× Foil Rare or Mythic
- 3× Foil Echoed Pairs Uncommon
- 2× Foil Uncommon
- 4× Foil Common
- 1× Foil Tower Land
Which one should you buy?
If you want to play, buy Play Boosters: they're what drafts and prereleases use, and they cost a fraction of a Collector Booster. If you're chasing a specific premium version of a card, buying the single is almost always cheaper than opening Collector Boosters for it. Collector Boosters make the most sense when you enjoy the opening itself, and the median pack below shows what a typical one is worth.
